Winter Millions at Windsor - 17/01/25

Writer: Grab The Reins RacingGrab The Reins Racing

Updated: Jan 28

We will cover both days of the Winter Millions meet at Windsor.

4 races will be shown from Windsor on Friday and Saturday including a few bonus races from other venues. The weather is looking clear so hopefully after the dry spell of no live Saturday racing on ITV we hope for a competitive weekend of racing with good crowds.

Windsor

Market Rasen

13:50 Fitzdares Lightning Novices' Chase (Grade 2)

Chase Turf, Grade 2 Novice Class 1

Distance: 2 miles

Runners: 4

Going: Soft

1st place prize money: £42,713

racehorse
Caldwell Potter and Harry Cobden - Racing Post

start list

Our selection for the race

To win: You Wear It Well

Top class mare who did not win last year but ran creditably every run. Gets the mares allowance here so gets 5 pounds of the other 3. Had 2 decent runs at the end of 2024 should be ready for this.

14:25 Lets Be Personal With Fitzdares Mares' Handicap Chase

Chase Turf, Handicap Class 2

Distance: 2 miles 4 furlongs

Runners: 7

Going: Soft

1st place prize money: £23,414

racehorse
Law Ella and Keith Donoghue - Coolmore

start list

Our selections for the race

To win: Party Vibes

Will be her 3rd chase start but taken well to chasing so far, 7 lengths of You Wear It Well then backed up to win at Exeter in December. Off a low weight here.

Each-way: Game On For Glory

Has ran well in all chase starts including 2 wins and her most recent win was a big step up. Harry Cobden onboard again should be right in contention.

15:00 Wetherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Hurdle

Hurdle Turf, Class 2

Distance: 2 miles 4 furlongs

Runners: 5

Going: Soft

1st place prize money: £52,030

racehorse
Harry Cobden and Blueking d'Oroux - Racing Post

start list

Our selections for the race

To win: Blueking d'Oroux

Good hurdler who looked like the trip didn't suit him at Ascot in the Long Walk Hurdle a month ago. Back in calmer waters. Leading contender.

15:35 Fitzdares Sovereign Handicap Hurdle

Hurdle Turf, Handicap Class 2

Distance: 2 miles

Runners: 14

Going: Soft

1st place prize money: £57,233

racehorse
Kabral Du Mathan and Harry Cobden - Racing Post

start list

Our selections for the race

To win: Secret Squirrel

Won 2 novice hurdles last year. Would have finished clear 3rd minimum when coming down in a highly competitive handicap at Ascot. Big swing in the weight against Kabral Du Mathan.

Each-way: Brentford Hope

Won 2 in a row last March on heavy and soft. Ran a huge race at Punchestown when 2nd, started his season when 2nd at Wincanton in a Grade 2. High mark but good enough to deal with it.

Market Rasen

13:25 Unibet Middle Distance Chase Series Veterans' Handicap Hurdle

Chase Turf, Handicap Class 2

Distance: 2 miles 5 furlongs

Runners: 10

Going: Good to soft

1st place prize money: £23,414

Numitor
James Bowen and Numitor - Racing Post

start list

Our selections for the race

To win: Numitor

Won the final of this series last spring at Haydock (Soft) Returned from his break with back to back wins, 2nd one at Cheltenham. Could be vulnerable of this high mark but is clearly in good nick.

Each-way: Onemorefortheroad

Hardy front-runner but did not stay 3 miles at Doncaster last month, close 2nd time before at Doncaster. Will give his running from the front and they might not catch him.

14:35 Unibet Veterans' Handicap Chase (2024 Veterans' Chase Final)

Chase Turf, Handicap Class 2

Distance: 3 miles

Runners: 8

Going: Good to soft

1st place prize money: £38,580

horse
Brendan Powell and Eldorado Allen - Racing365

start list

Our selections for the race

To win: Eldorado Allen

Has had 2 batches of wind surgery in January and August. Won 2 minor races since. Had a good spin round the Grand National, rallied and ran on well to finish 3rd behind Copperhead at Cheltenham last time. Lowest chase mark since 2021 very dangerous.

Each-way: Smarty Wild

Won sole race 4 years ago but always runs with credit. Had 690 days off before being pulled up at Haydock, got his return run out the way and is off a dangerous mark with hi stable in tremendous form.
